There's a Whole Huge Flickr Group Photographing Virtual Crows in Second Life — Here's Some Amazing Examples!

Cajsa Lilliehook covers the best in virtual world screenshot art and digital painting

Kiki Jonston’sBlackest Eyes” featuring a beautiful crow, one of many crows and ravens in the group Corvidae – SL. With 347 members, there are plenty of gorgeous pictures among the 2200 pictures in the group. Corvidae, or corvids, include ravens, crows, rooks, as well as magpies, jackdaws, jays, nutcrackers, choughs, and treepies.

But if you say corvid, most people will think of ravens, rooks, or crows, and that’s what you will find in Corvidae – SL.These are some smart birds. This month, researchers found they make statistical inferences and can understand analogies. They know what they know and can think about it. They have self-awareness, something humans like to think is their province.

Winter Greystone has “Eleonora” looking as though it’s Edgar Allen Poe’s desk perhaps when he wrote “The Raven?” There is a gorgeous quote from Poe about dreaming during the day. It begins “They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night…” There’s more, click on through to the picture.

Alexa Boura’s Secret Garden by Cica Ghost” is one of the many pics that show us corvids can be lighthearted as well. They can be generous. A friend of mine gets frequent gifts left on his back porch by a neighboring crow, year after year.

Luz DeGas shows us the surreal side of corvids in “Landscape with Chairs.” With as excellent a picture as this, he maybe should be called Luz De Dali.

Tutsy Navarathna gives us this gorgeous “the fields and the mountains.” I love the starkness of the black and white. So dramatic, which is only to be expected from this brilliant bird.

Corvidae – SL is a great group. It’s well-moderated, keeping the pictures on topic. I love that Second Life Flickr has so many crows they have their very own group. Check your picks, if there are corvids, join the group and add them.
